Having never been
to Hidcote Manor we were looking forward to visiting it, as our last garden on
the first day of our tour. Unfortunately we found it very disappointing. Just
inside the garden was an organized event, with noisy children abseiling one of
the magnificent trees. There were too many ‘Rooms’ and a lot of them with
nothing much in, there seemed to be an air of ‘No hand on the tiller’. The
rockery was just that, rocks and very few plants. Hardly any plants had a label,
though this is true for all the gardens we visited. The only part we found
interesting was the newly built plant house and the cutting garden. Considering
the garden attracts visitors from many parts of the world, what must they think.
And one of our group said the garden was better than it had been!
